COLLECTIONS DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR
Fixed Term, Full-Time Position
Available Immediately Through February 2003

The Asian Art Museum is seeking an experienced database administrator to
develop and maintain its automated collections management database, ARGUS
Open Edition (AOE). This fixed-term, full-time position is funded through
February 2003 to provide assistance to the Registration Department up to
and during the move of the museum to new facilities in Civic Center.
Reporting to the Senior Registrar, the incumbent will plan the continued
development and implementation of the AOE system; train and assist users;
document data standards; act as planning liaison with other museum
departments for AOE-related projects; and work on a variety of special
projects.


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
1.  Manages the collections management database ARGUS Open Edition (AOE);
acts as principal AAM liaison with AOE’s vendor, Questor Systems.

2.  Inputs new data, updates and corrects existing data, and ensures the
integrity of information in the AOE database.

3.  Trains staff in use of the AOE system; prepares user documentation and
training materials, and compiles system documentation.

4.  Works with other staff to define data fields and cataloguing standards,
and to select preferred terminology and authority controls.  Monitors
adherence to, and documents, data entry standards.

5.  Customizes AOE for the museum’s use; designs and generates forms and
reports; trains other Registration staff how to customize searches and
write reports.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
· Two years’ experience with client/server relational database management
systems; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
· Experience with collections management software strongly preferred.
· Experience using Argus Open Edition from Questor Systems preferred.
· Experience using PowerBuilder or Crystal Reports report generation tools
preferred.

COMPENSATION
$38-46K annually with benefit package.
