Does anyone have or know of one of the first Xerox machines from the
1950s& early '60s that's available? The Museum of American Heritage
in Palo Alto, Calif., is looking for a machine in workable condition.
This is the very first Xerox - we called it a Standard Xerox, but I
don't know what its model number was - and it was necessary to hand
develop each and every copy. A competent operator could make 15
copies an hour. (I ran one of these from 1960-62, and was thrilled
no end when I saw my first Xerox 914, which was able to make six
copies a minute, all automatically, and its only failing was that it
occasionally caught fire. (It was also my job to clean up after a
fire.))
If you know of such an item, please let me know. I have various
spare parts I took off a junker someone gave us, so we may be able to
fix an inoperable machine. Thanks.
