We love our Nikon Coolpix 990...had to make a purchase under a $1000, but we wanted as much flexibility with possible and the highest resolutions/largest file sizes possible. It's a 3 megapixel camera, takes uncompressed 300 dpi .tiff files (if you want), and allows you to change
white balance, f-stop, shutter speed, etc. Easy to use, too!
