DUTIES:  The incumbent of this position is responsible for scheduling Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service exhibitions to a broad national and international  audience.  As such, the incumbent assists in analyzing exhibitor facility reports to  determine qualifications of exhibitors.  Provides exhibitors and potential exhibitors with information on content, availability, security requirements, fees, and shipping requirements for exhibitions.   Schedules exhibitions, carries out marketing plans that  match exhibitions with potential host organizations and their audiences, maintains a database containing technical information on each exhibition, and provides information and assistance to the Director of Scheduling and Exhibitor Relations.

QUALIFICATIONS:  One year specialized experience equivalent to the next lowest grade; (Specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position as stated above and is typically in or related to the work of this position.) OR 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement.

Selective Factors:   (Applicants must meet all of these mandatory requirements in order  to be considered qualified to compete for a position.)

1.      Knowledge of marketing strategies and materials for scheduling traveling museum exhibitions.
2.      Ability to convey interpretive content and technical specifications of museum exhibitions.
3.      Knowledge of the arts, sciences and/or humanities in a cultural environment.

Quality Ranking Factors:  (These factors are not mandatory to be considered for a  position, but will be used to determine who are the highest qualified candidates among  those who meet the selective factors.)

1.      Knowledge of temporary exhibition facilities in museums, galleries, and other cultural organizations.
2.      Knowledge of museum registration standards for traveling exhibition 
specifications, policies, practices and skills.
3.      Ability to operate a data-base computer program for tracking exhibition data.
4.      Ability to communicate orally.
5.      Ability to communicate in writing.

NOTE:  RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE PAID.
