Crystal Productions is an excellent source for educational materials.
They're website is www.crystalproductions.com. They have a section on
picture books about artists as well as a number of series available on
art history for kids.
The US Department of Education offers a FREE Guide for Parents on
visiting museum. It may be obtained online at
http://www.ed.gov/pubs/parents/learnact.html.
Without knowing how you plan to use these books, I find it difficult to
make more specific recommendations. I have a bibliography I recommend
to teachers that's very different than what I recommend for parents.
Actually, for parents I don't usually recommend books designed to teach
art. I love books written and illustrated by artists like Jacob
Lawrence, Faith Ringgold...there are many. I also love to use book
illustrations as the basis for projects i.e. Eric Carle = collage.
I hope this helps,
Hether Reed
