Dear Bill and Listers,

Well, in Turkish, there is a term for wild exaggerations and false statements
of fact:
palavra.    What, you think this is a Spanish word?   Well, it is but in
Spanish it just means word.      The Turks probably took it from the Turkish
Jews who speak whatelse, but Judeo-Spanish, and then, gave it this twist in
meaning.

In English, you might consider a term coinded by  the late Richard Dorson,
the Dean of American Folklore, from my dear alma mater, Indiana University:
fakelore for  a sort of false folklore, especially of the commercial variety
found at many roadside stands in southern Indiana!    Fakelore might be just
the term!
