Director of Program in Museum Studies
The University of Michigan seeks to appoint a Director for its Program in
Museum Studies, an interdisciplinary, internationalist graduate certificate
program that seeks to prepare students for the sophisticated study of objects
and artifacts and eventual careers in museums, the academy, the
entertainment industry, etc. This is a full-time,
tenure-track/tenured position,
rank open, reporting to the Dean of the Graduate School, with an additional
academic appointment to be determined by the research interests of the
successful candidate. The Director will, in collaboration with a faculty
steering committee, further develop the structure of the Program, prepare
and lead its annual proseminar, and work broadly with University faculty to
solicit their involvement in the program. The Director will also supervise
students admitted to the Program, coordinate with their primary fields of
study, and help to ensure timely completion of program requirements. Start
summer 2001.
The position requires a substantive intellectual commitment to the field of
museum studies, evidence of interdisciplinary engagement, and university-
level teaching experience. Ph.D. preferred; ABD considered. Preference may
be given to candidates with museum experience and administrative skills.
