Barbara,
I don't know if this will exactly suit, but there is a series covering a
number of languages. I used it to learn enough German to pass my Ph.D.
German reading/translation exam: Mary and HP Apfelt, "Reading Knowledge in
German for Art Historians and Archaeologiets," Erich Schmidt Verlag, ISBN
3-503-02228-7. There is also a specialized dictionary that you can buy.
The books are expensive, and don't include an answer key. Still, I found
them easy enough to use (although I hired a German-speaking airline
attendant to check over my answers, help me out of pronunciations and such,
since I am something of an auditory learner when it comes to languages).
