Since I am the only person at our small historical society museum (other than sporadic
help from local high school interns), am only just getting started at this and must learn
how to present small exhibitions on a shoestring, too, I found the following book helpful:
"Good Show! A Practical Guide for Temporary Exhibitions" by Lothar P. Witteborg
I bought it through Amazon a year ago and consider it all the information I will need for
a while. While the primary thrust is the construction of display units (charming graphics
help illustrate the process), other topics include "Planning" (Understanding the
Exhibition Objectives; Visitor Flow, etc), "Preparation" (Public Relations; Exhibition
Maintenance, Dismantling, etc); "Security"; "People With Disabilities"; "Evaluation" and
"Sources"
While I have not actually had to construct anything yet, I have used it for
information about hanging exhibition items.
Good luck
Lynne
