Frank:
You cannot claim to be "Just curious for opinions." Asking this kind of
question in Museum-L is like asking President Clinton for opinions about
oral sex! LOL! It triggers an immediate -- and known (a priori) --
response.
Along the same lines as David Taylors' message (BRAVO, David!) . . .
For a family -- defined as TWO adults and ALL children under the age of
18 -- to join the museum where I work for a FULL YEAR (with many
benefits, see http://www.joslyn.org/geninfo/membene.htm) would cost
$50.00.
One visit for TWO adults and TWO children (aged 5-17) would cost $18.00.
(If the children are under age 5, they are admitted for free.)
For TWO adults and TWO children (aged 3-9 -- amazing how young children
are no longer considered children?) to get an annual pass to Walt Disney
World would cost $1,369.52.
(See
http://disneytickets.store.go.com/TSSectionPage.process?Merchant_Id=4&Se
ction_Id=13162)
Incidentally, Six Flags over Georgia is a lot cheaper than Disney . . .
but still would cost a bundle.
(See http://www.sixflags.com/georgia/pricing/)
A Nintendo 64 Console with Two Controllers: Atomic Purple -- at
www.amazon.com (which, I discovered, is the link from
www.ToysRUs.com) -- would cost $99.99 PLUS shipping & handling PLUS
approximately $50.00 PER GAME!
For TWO adults and TWO children (under 16, I believe) wanted to see
"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" at AMC's Oakview 24 Theaters in Omaha,
NE at 7:30 pm tonight, that would cost $22.00 plus whatever they wanted
from the concession stand.
So, Frank . . . Don't place the burden on museums to explain admissions
policies. Why don't you place the burden on everyday Americans to
explain their priorities?
Sincerely,
Jay Heuman, Visitor & Volunteer Services Coordinator
