Well, it's only a personal reaction, but were I a donor I would be put off if it came out that you had a theft and DIDN'T report it. If you report the theft so there is a potential to get the object back, and correct identified security gaps, then I would trust you with my donations. If you don't report it, how will the police know where to bring it back? How will your insurance be effective? Don't ostrich on this, report it.
