Do you want to go for general art history or a special area such as decorative arts, costume, etc.?
If DC is an option for you, I would go to George Washington University. In NY I would go to NYU, Bard. Yale in Ct is also good. I went to FIT for one semester & didn't care much for the program. Now my *dream* is to go to NYU but for $30,000 a year, I need to hit the lottery first.
