Civil War Massachusetts: The African and Native American Perspectives
Lecture at the Massachusetts Archives
Secretary of the Commonwealth William Francis Galvin announced today that
Wendell C. Bourne, Jr., Coordinator of the Office of Multicultural Education
in the Cambridge Public Schools, will present the next lecture in a public
series, "Teaching with Primary Sources." "Civil War Massachusetts: The
African and Native American Perspectives" will be offered on Saturday, April
28, at 10:30 a.m. at the Massachusetts Archives on Columbia Point in
Dorchester.
Participants will learn about Civil War era documents and artifacts
available at the Massachusetts Archives. The lecture highlights items
associated with Blacks and Native Americans to shed light on their
experiences during the most critical conflict in American history. The
presentation will include lesson plans and ideas for classroom use.
The program is free and open to the public. Parking is free, and the
building is handicapped accessible. For additional information or a brochure
