Dear Museum Colleagues:
For those of you who do not have access to the Washington Post, it is
with sadness that I impart the news of the passing of S. Dillon Ripley
II, 87, yesterday at The George Washington University Hospital here in
Washington, D.C. Dr. Ripley served as Secretary of the Smithsonian
Institution from 1964 until 1984 and was one of the shining lights in
the world of museum management.
It was my honor and privilege to have personally known Dr. Ripley and to
say he will be missed.
For more information on his tenure at the Smithsonian and his museum
management philosophy visit the Web Site of The Washington Post.
Kind Regards
Roger Wulff
