Two possibly useful tips:
VBS and javascript viruses can be easily thwarted by preventing your
mail reader from running visual basic and java scripts. It is very
seldom that one truly needs them anyway - standard e-mail doesn't
contain either visual basic or java script, and a great many people
don't have mail programmes that can read them.
Autonomously active e-mail viruses can also be thwarted by choosing to
use a mail programme that does not have the code-processing abilities
that the virus needs. A great many of them rely on the 'extra
functionality' that's built into e.g. Outlook. (It has long surprised
me that, despite so many press clippings linking viruses with Outlook,
so many people still use it. Maybe this is testimony to the product's
superiority?)
There's of course no need to mention the dangers of opening attachments
that you didn't specifically expect...
