Doesn't it depend on the museum? We allow woodworkers or crafts people to
come in and make plans of our artifacts for reproduction, as long as the
proper credit is given and it is not for commercial gain. Of course, the
post was for commercial gain. However, anyone could come in and make the
plans in their minds, then go home and reproduce any artifact..and who is to
know better? I cannot see how that could be stopped.
