The City of Greeley Museums has 575 volunteers who donated 10,400 hours last year. The core of this group is our "Friends" organization, which also raises and donates money in support of programs, artifact conservation, equipment and exhibits. In exchange we offer them the following:
recognition of their efforts in advertising and talks
exposure for Friends activities in media interviews
a volunteer banquet
a discount at the museum store
free admission to the museums except for "special events"
discounts on museum class registration for their kids or grand kids
early registration for museum classes
free facilities use for meetings and events
newsletter
event invitations
recognition and representation on parade unit
one Museum Board position
staff support for mailings
free food at major events (festivals)
I would appreciate any thoughts List readers have on the appropriateness of these benefits. Are they too or little too much? Can you suggest other things we could offer in addition or as alternatives to these items? These offerings seem fairly typical to me, but I'm not sure what others think is "standard" in this matter.
TIA
