i hate to burst everyone's philanthropic bubble, but this "petition" has
been circulating around the internet for at least 3 and a half years, if not
longer. the phrasing hasn't changed, and the copy sounds just as alarming
as it did the first time i saw it. my point is this: while we all feel it
is a great idea to support the nea (i doubt anyone would dispute this), we
have to be careful about what we send around. this type of junk e-mail
clogs many a terminal, and one of the great things about this list is that
it weeds those types out by its very nature. it is no worse to spread the
"click here and bill gates will send you $1000" types of chain letters than
it is to send these. i don't mean to sound like a crank, but i have
literally seen this over 100 times (now i doubt that nina totenberg has been
reporting the same story all this time) and it does tend to get a bit
tiresome. the ideas for sending this around are great, but we should think
before we click.
i'm really not as cranky as i sound, honest.

> On NPR's Morning Edition, Nina Totenberg reported that if the
> Supreme Court supports Congress to cut the budget of the National
> Endowment of the Arts, it is in effect the end of NEA. This
> situation creates great concerns about Congressional funding for creative
> arts in America, since NEA provides major support for NPR (National
