I recently received the following request regarding conservation of a
waterlogged item -- can anyone suggest the appropriate 'clear liquid'
to be used for this purpose?
>I have just bought a crossbow in lacquered wood. It is
>complete and in very good condition. It also has a plain, lidded wooden box
>containing bits and pieces that seem to be spare parts and crossbow bolts.
>
>The items are all waterlogged. Rather than getting involved in risky and
>expensive proceedures to dry them out with a bulking agent, I plan to make a
>perspex case and keep them waterlogged. For that purpose, I need a clear
liquid which is very stable. Please can you recommend something?
