Greetings, I am a recent graduate of the University of Maryland's
M.A. program in American literature and I am currently in the process of
pursuing a strong interest in museum work. Ultimately I would would like
to become an assistant director or director of education in a museum with
a special interest in preserving African American cultural heritage. My
objective is to use my extensive scholarly knowledge of African American
literature and history as well as my experience in the field of
communications to enrich a museum's educational and community outreach
programs. At present my primary concern is gaining experience and exposure
to my field of interest through a directed and preferably paid
internship. I would appreciate any suggestions about institutions (large
or small) in the Washington Metro area (I should mention that I have
already looked into the Smithsonian) which may offer an appropriate
internship. Please let me know if you think of anything. Thank
you. -Jasmine O. Palmer
P.S.
I would also appreciate any information on typical entry level museum
jobs.
