i have been asked by a supervisor to use soap and water to clean an oil
based mural painted on what looks like a woven material, whatever it is it
is not wood or run of the mill drywall. it was painted in the 1950's in
what was then a bar. there is smoke and grease stains as well as accidental
smears of building putty from the current construction that is going on in
the room. the room is going to be a gift shop for a traveling exhibit and
they want a quick, easy, cheap way to clean the mural to make it
presentable. i am hesitant to use soap and water as i am not sure of the
ramifications. any suggestions or alternatives for cleaning this mural?
thanks
