Position Announcement
The New York City Fire Museum seeks two creative and dynamic individuals
to participate as First Person Interpreters in it’s new Living History
Program. This is a part time position of 15 hours a week which will require
weekend work with the
possibility of additional hours for evening and special events held at the
museum.
Interpreters will work with the Museum’s director and a Lead Interpreter to
form a
company of performers.
This program is an experiment and will progress step by step. There will
be a
week of training which will include FDNY history, Meisner-based acting
technique,
and improvisational games. Interpreters will start with storytelling and
move on to
character development working around those stories.
A background in history, museum studies, or museum interpretation is not
necessary: hands-on experience in living history, theatre, creative writing,
storytelling
or other performance art is extremely desirable. As this is a program in
development, your experience and ideas will be important in making it
progress.
