REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL: Web Site Designer
Proposal Deadline: 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2000

OBJECTIVE
MSHP is seeking proposals for web site designers for the next 12 months to
help MSHP redesign and expand its web site as a more comprehensive,
attractive, accessible, quality presence on the Internet.

BACKGROUND
Mackinac State Historic Parks (MSHP) is a group of living history parks and
museums in Northern Michigan’s Straits of Mackinac Region operated by the
Mackinac Island State Park Commission (MISPC). The average annual
attendance is over 400,000. The MSHP web site,
www.mackinac.com/historicparks, has been online since May 1997. A new
domain name has been purchased for the project.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The web developer will be providing consulting, technical support, and
World Wide Web (WWW) site design, development, and on-going maintenance
services to Mackinac State Historic Parks that desire an effective presence
on the WWW in order to distribute information to the public by way of the
Internet.

The goal is to improve communication about MSHP and encourage visitors to
come to our parks. It is a priority for MSHP that the information is kept
current and the web site can be easily updated weekly by staff during our
season of operation. The web site will incorporate keywords and other
technology to be easily generated in searches. Links will be created to
other regional attractions and travel information and the site must be user
friendly for people with disabilities and all types of computers accessing
the Internet.

The Web Site Task Force is currently working on future plans for the web
site. It is anticipated that the plan will include proposals for several
additional sections and features to be added to the web site during FY2001.
