I must offer a slight correction to Dr. Petznick's post.  It isn't a question
of "IF" something is copyrighted.  Under current copyright law, creation
automatically confers copyright.  Consequently, virtually all intellectual or
artistic material is protected by copyright unless it's old enough to be in
the public domain.  Official copyright registration is still available as an
option, and is essential in order to recover monetary damages from
infringement, but it is not essential to the copyrighting process.  So
getting permission to quote or copy is more than mere courtesy.

This message, therefore, is copyrighted because I just wrote it.
