The Octagon, the museum of The American Architectural Foundation is
circulating an exhibition that explores the role of art in public
architecture. The great collaborations between architects and artists are
as old as the magnificent structures of the ancient world. Collaborations
between architects and artists have resulted in such diverse structures as
the Parthenon in Athens, Chartres Cathedral in France, Rockefeller Center in
New York City, and the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, DC. These and
other celebrated buildings around the world served as models and inspiration
for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority when it conceived the
Architectural Enhancement Program for Terminal B/C at Ronald Reagan
Washington National Airport - a modern program to reunite the ancient bonds
between the arts and architecture.

Developed in conjunction with the Metropolitan Washington Airports
Authority, the exhibition is comprised of two panels featuring reproduction
photographs of the new terminal and the artwork, along with an 18-minute
video. Reuniting the Arts examines the role of art in public architecture,
the revival of the role of "Master Architect," the process of incorporating
the art into the structure, and the legacy of the Architectural Enhancement
Program.
