The Billings Curation Center is currently working on a collection from a site
known as the Powder River Depot (24PE231). This is located near Miles City in
eastern Montana. Excavations of a large trash pit revealed countless materials,
including imported beer, wine and soda bottles, clay smoking pipes, tin cans,
knives, beef, bison, and canid bone, as well as military ordnance, and harness
parts.

Does anyone know if there have been other archaeological excavations of Indian
War Supply Depots between the years 1865 - 1880? If so, does anyone know where
these collections have been found, and where have the associated archives of
these collections been stored?

Thank you.
Stephanie Battle
Curation Assistant
