Hello--
I think that the Museo Stibbert in Florence would fit your
criteria. Every room is devoted to a different aspect of his interests:
armor, Asian artifacts, an "Oriental" room, and on and on. A real boy's
paradise. The Museo Horne, also in Florence, was, I do believe, also set
up by Herbert Horne specifically to be his own version of an art museum.
Even today it boasts numerous restrictions imposed by the late owner.
The Museo Poldi-Pezzoli might also be included, as it is a family
collection (I'm much hazier on this, so I might be wrong).
I hope the fact that they are all in Italy is not too far away
from your subject!
