Having once worked in the aerospace industry before the museum world,
the US government makes it very clear, no matter the cost, etc., you ship
back scrapped parts/debris from any repair/maintainence work. Its not so
much
its value, but all too often knowing what a component is made of gives you
an
exact idea of the capabilities of said craft.
Second, as a matter of principal, it is government property until a release
has
been signed.
