CURATOR – OBJECTIVE
CURATOR OF INTERPRETATION & COLLECTIONS (75%) - PRAIRIE DU CHIEN (AREA 4)
Job Announcement Code: 01143
State Historical Society of Wisconsin; Villa Louis historic site. Start
between $20,721 and $23,788 annually, depending upon
qualifications; plus excellent benefits. Approximately 30 hours per week.
This position is included in the Education Bargaining
Unit and requires a 12-month probationary period.
JOB DUTIES: Primary responsibility for the development, implementation and
management of interpretive programs and for
managing and maintaining collections and collections records for a major
state historic site. This position also recruits, trains
and oversees seasonal staff and volunteers in the areas of interpretation
and collections, and assists with management of the Villa
Louis Store/Gift Shop. NOTE: The required knowledge, skills and abilities
are typically acquired through an advanced degree
in Museum Studies/Administration plus significant historic site/outdoor
museum experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND
ABILITIES: Professional museum interpretive methodologies; professional
museum registration and cataloging principles and
practices; professionally recognized collections care principles and
practices; 19th century skills and crafts; advanced level
history research; American history; 19th century Midwest history; museum
program management; oral, written and
interpersonal communications; effective programming using historical and
interpretive concepts; curriculum development and
learning theory; material culture as it relates to cultural history;
costumed interpretation; personnel supervision and
management; computer word processing and spreadsheet applications; and
ability to independently travel, on and off the site.
