Sorry I can't remember exactly, but it was either Kenneth Clark or
Thomas Hoving who decided that the best way to view the paintings in the
museum was from a wheelchair--best angle, and the visitors wouldn't get
tired so fast. So, he bought a number of wheelchairs and made them
available for free. Nobody used them; intimidated perhaps by the
implication that they were disabled?
