Position: Museum internship – one position available (1200 hours )
Location: NPS History Collection, Harpers Ferry Center, Charles Town, WV
Salary: $15.00/hour. Includes 60-hours paid leave and paid federal holidays. Does not include health benefits.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Full time (40 hours per week) preferred but a part time schedule may be possible.
Job Summary: Intern works with the NPS History Collection staff to catalog history objects, rehouse collections, photograph or scan objects and documents, and implement storage improvements. Assists with annual inventory of museum property. Conducts environmental monitoring, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and museum housekeeping in museum storage areas. Training provided in use of the Interior Collection Management System (ICMS).
Qualifications: Student or recent graduate in museum studies or closely related degree. Applicants must be enrolled students or have graduated within the past 12 months from the closing date of this announcement. Attention to detail required. Applicants must have the ability to present oral and written information in a clear and concise manner. Work requires prolonged standing, sitting, walking, bending, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
Duration: 1200 hours (c. 7.5 months) with an estimated start date in mid to late October 2021. Start date may only be confirmed after background checks have been completed.
Other Requirements: This internship is paid through the National Center for Preservation Education (NCPE). Direct deposit is required. A valid driver’s license is required. Personal transportation is required as no public transport is available in the area. US citizenship is required. Successful candidates must pass the National Park Service’s background security investigation process. This process must be started at least one month before anticipated start date and internship cannot start without this clearance. Interns must comply with federal government Covid-19 protocols. Occasional telework may be necessary to meet building occupancy limits, if in force due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Telework assignments may vary from the primary duties of the internship as needed.
Other information: Internship may be used for credit, subject to university approval. Housing is not provided but may be found in the local area.
