Position: Records Management Internships – two positions available (1200 hours each )
Location: Harpers Ferry, WV
Salary: $17.00/hour. Includes 60-hours paid leave and paid federal holidays. Does not include health benefits.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Full time (40 hours per week). This is not a remote position.
Job Summary: Interns work with the National Park Service (NPS) History Collection archivists and Mather Training Center (MTC) staff to implement recommendations from a 2022 records survey for MTC. Applies written disposition schedules to records. Rehouses federal records and creates box lists and other inventories to transfer records. Documents and tracks records and work accomplishments. Packs materials for shipping/transportation. Completes other tasks as assigned. If MTC records management work is completed, interns will gain experience arranging, rehousing, and describing archives in the NPS History Collection.
Qualifications: Degree or course of studies in records management, archives, museum studies, or closely related subject. Applicants must be enrolled students or have graduated within the past 12 months from the closing date of this announcement. Attention to detail, flexibility, good communication skills, and a willingness to learn are also important. Work requires prolonged standing, sitting, walking, bending, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
Duration: 1200 hours (c. 7.5 months) with an estimated start date in late October 2022. Start date may only be confirmed after a required background check has been completed.
Other Requirements: This internship is paid through the National Center for Preservation Education (NCPE). Direct deposit is required. A valid driver’s license is required. Personal transportation is required as no public transport is available in the area. US citizenship is required. Successful candidates must pass the National Park Service’s background security investigation process. This process must be started at least one month before anticipated start date and internship cannot start without this clearance. Interns must comply with federal government Covid-19 protocols which may change throughout the internship.
Other information: Internship may be used for credit, subject to university approval. Housing is not provided but may be found in the local area.
