Dear Gunther,

I thank you for this recent message of yours and most particularly for
your excellent idea of something truly practical and helpful which ICOM
Austria could do to assist with the Tsunami recovery effort. Indeed, I
take this opportunity to recommend this proposal to other committees
which may wish to assist. ICOM could then facilitate with the
consolidation and planned distribution of such funds through the ICOM
Fund to institutions and colleagues most affected by these disasters. As
I had mentioned to the Executive Council last week that the expansion of
the ICOM Fund for this purpose as one of the ways in which ICOM can plan
to assist, I am very happy to give my support to this idea .The
Secretary General can indicate to you whenever we are ready to identify
this specific Fund for Tsunami Relief.

Thank you again for your proposal, and I hope that others will be
encouraged to do the same.

with a deep sadness about the incredible things that happened on the
coasts of Indian Sea I shall propose to the new elected board of ICOM
Austria and to our ministry of culture to collect the entrance fees to
all museums of one day - inclusively donations of the staff and visitors

- for the first steps of help, which must be directed to safe human life

in this region. In a later second step we can do the same to save the
destroyed culturural goods or such ones who are endagered. I ask you all

if you think to do these steps in a similar way?! With best wishes for a

hopefully happy, and successful New Year I greet you all Yours
