Dear Giovanni:
Thanks you for your interesting message. You will find that many
countries tend to follow the ICOM definition, and quite a few have
incorporated this into national law.
On the web site of the ICOM International Committeee for the Training Of
Personnnel (ICTOP) (http://ictop.icom/museum/), under Professional
Education and Training Information your will find a selection of around
20 definitions, both current and historic, from around the world,
including the 2001 revisions of the ICOM and UK Museums Association
definitions, and the new 2002 French Ministry of Culture and Museums
Australia definitions. This is at: http://ictop.icom.museum/mus-def.html
I am always very glad to have further additions to this.
Best wishes
Patrick Boylan
(Chairperson, ICOM-ICTOP - City University London)
