We are currently in the process of reinterpreting our museum space and all of the children's discovery centers on our property. These centers are designed to be hands-on, learning spaces for younger elementary students. In our redesign, we are creating a center for children that are neurodivergent. I'm reaching out to see if anyone has created a curated space like this before. If so any tips? Anything that absolutely did not work? Please note that this is not a calming space or a room for children to go to if they are overstimulated. This is being designed as

Part one of this workshop will focus on visual literacy skills and pedagogical approaches by using Zoom to engage with objects from museums, libraries, and archives. Part two will focus on ways for participants to apply these pedagogies to their own work and institutions. Participants will discuss and develop ways to implement and evaluate their own visual literacy programs as well as how digital archives, art objects, and other primary sources can be used by staff, students, and faculty. The question of what it means to teach from collections within a range of professional perspectives–including from information, museum, and education contexts—will also be addressed.

As we all know, collections-based work and research is not often lauded, and professional staff working with those collections receive little to no recognition. This is your opportunity to create change in that area!

The maximum length for articles is 8,000 words (including endnotes) and 10–12 images, and for research notes 4,000 words (including endnotes) and 4–6 images.

We have some archaeological soil samples in our collections<https://presidio.gov/about/history/curation> that either have had or currently have active mold growth (about 3 cubic feet of material total, in 250-500 g cloth bags). We've quarantined them away from other collection items, but are looking to see whether there are any treatments that can be used to arrest the active biological growth, without compromising future analysis (e.g., archaeoparasitology, palynology, geochemistry, paleoethnobotany, microartifact/ecofact analysis, etc.).
