Museum Victoria and the Indigenous Cultures Program invite you to celebrate and assess the work of two influential anthropologists, Baldwin Spencer and Frank Gillen, at a two day conference being held at University of Melbourne. Spencer & Gillen published their research exactly 100 years ago, in a book entitled The Native Tribes of Central Australia.

Today this publication remains an academic and popular classic. Baldwin Spencer is also a former Director of Museum Victoria and we hold many objects and records from his collection.

Speakers at the conference include: Ian Anderson, Diane Austin-Broos, Philip Batty, Jenny Green, Barry Hill, Suzy Hutchings, Philip Jones, Dick Kimber, Henrika Kuklick, Howard Morphy, John Morton, John Mulvaney, Alison Petch and Nicolas Peterson.
