I currently attend grad. school at City College in New York in their art history/museum studies program. When I applied, I looked at NYU and Columbia as well. Unless Columbia has changed, their program is officially a master's of art history, with an emphasis on preparing you for a career in the art world (not sure what that means, i.e., if there is specific coursework). NYU's, on the other hand, seems more hands-on in terms of preparing you for arts administration. Plus, they also have continuing education courses as well leading to an arts administration certificate. This is especially good if you already have your master's in art history and/or would like to do that, or if you want to take extra courses to further your knowledge. NYU's website is fairly extensive for describing both the graduate program and continuing education program.

Personally, the program at City College is fantastic, headed by Dr. Harriet Senie. She essentially created the program from the ground up, and is most attentive to the students in the program. If you would like to contact her regarding program info., her email is [log in to unmask]

I was wondering if anyone on the list is familiar with the Master's Degree
programs in Arts Administration offered at NYU and Columbia. I am interested
in applying to both schools but aside from information on their web pages I
have never spoken with anyone who can give me more information.

Thank you in advance.
