We are a regional history museum in Oklahoma that is trying to build our collection for an anticipated museum opening by late 2000 or 2001. We would like to add to our photograph collection, but have had some problems getting originals from donors. A major local retailer has agreed to host a photo day at their location in May. I was wondering what others on this list might recommend concerning this. An idea was to advertise the event and have potential donors bring their photographs into the store. If appropriate we would then try to scan the photographs and then output them on a photo printer. The donors would then sign a gift agreement as to the image. If the photographs are really valuable, we may ask to have a negative of the photograph produced. The store has agreed to give us gift certificates for prizes and will help us in our supplies, etc. We hope this will help in building our photograph collection. I would welcome input from others who have had similar events. Also, I would like to know opinions on appropriate equipment for capturing and printing these images. What are others using to copy photographs, etc. Thank you in advance for your responses.
