POSITION: Historic Rugby in rural East Tennessee has opening for seasonal interpreter/researcher. Position begins late April/early May continuing through October or later. Job activities include researching, developing and conducting multi-building tours under direction of Director of Education, assisting at visitor center admission/information desk and carrying out archival research projects in conjunction with new program development. Interns may earn credit by arranging with their college or university. ORGANIZATION: Historic Rugby is a restored 1880's museum village, open to the public since 1966. The National Register district includes 20 primarily Gothic Revival/Victorian Vernacular private residences and museum buildings, including the literally unchanged 1882 Hughes Free Public Library with its original 7,000 volume collection still on the shelves. Rugby was founded in 1880 by British author and social reformer Thomas Hughes, who hoped to establish new lives in America based on cooperative agriculture and trade for the second sons of British Gentry. Its remaining distinctive Victorian architecture and authentic setting have been intriguing visitors for over a century. QUALIFICATIONS: Completion or nearing completion of related degree; some interpretive experience preferred but not essential.
