MUSEUM INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE Located on 18 waterfront acres in historic St. Michaels, Maryland, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the heritage of the Chesapeake Bay. The Museum's exhibitions, educational programs, and collection of Chesapeake Bay maritime artifacts including more than 85 traditional Bay watercraft, tell the story of how the Bay came to be, what its role has been in our nation's history, and how it has shaped the lives of everyone who has lived around it, from Native Americans to colonists to watermen today. The Museum's internship program is an integral part of its educational activities. Internships provide students with the opportunity to gain training in their specific area of expertise as well as an overview of Museum practices and policies. Individuals working towards undergraduate or graduate degrees in Museum studies, history or related fields are invited to apply. Internships are for 10-13 weeks and the Museum provides a weekly stipend of $125 plus housing. Projects for interns include: Curatorial -research, inventory, catalogue, and rehouse museum collections -conduct research for upcoming exhibitions Education -develop an interpretive shipboard ecology program for school age audiences -assist Director of Education with development of curriculum based school program Exhibitions -assist with the design and installation of temporary exhibitions -design and produce signage for education programs and special events Boat Yard -work as a carpenter's helper or painter in the restoration of historic Bay vessels -interpret the boat yard and marine railway to visitors -perform daily maintenance of Museum's collection of historic vessels Marketing and Public Relations -research visitors' and members' perceptions of the Museum and plan marketing initiatives -research and write media materials -assist in initiatives to recruit new members and retain existing members Museum Advancement -research major donors, corporations, and foundations -research grants and compile a master schedule To apply, you can download an application at www.cbmm.org or call Leigh Ann Gay at (410)745.2916.
