1)      Consult a lawyer or corporate counsel.

2)      There is a "fair use" law covering broadcast material; you are
allowed to show it for up to 30 days.

3)      With printed material, you are entitled to use something you
purchase so long as you do not alter the work.  For example, if you wanted
to cut a cartoon out of a Gary Larson book and put that in an exhibit, you
can.  If you wanted to enlarge the cartoon, or put it on a photographic
slide, or some such, you would need to get permission and pay royalties.
