POSITION TITLE: PREPARATOR (Conservation Technician I) Salary Grade: 7 Hiring Range: $2,018 to 2,472/month Hours per week: 35 (Expected start date: February 1999) Required/Preferred Education, Experience, Skills: BA or BFA highly desirable. Prior experience in museum setting or frame shop. Knowledge of mat cutting and art handling. Knowledge of art history and works of art on paper. Excellent manual dexterity, strong organizational skills, and accuracy and attention to detail required. Knowledge of collections care/preventive conservation preferred. Computer skills, including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software, required; familiarity with EmbARK database preferred. Ability to work while standing for long periods of time. Duties and Responsibilities: Reports to Ethnographic Collections Manager and Conservator. Works with Paper Conservator to deframe, photograph, and mat works of art on paper. Constructs mats. Prepares protective housings and storage supports for paintings and historic frames. Affixes catalog numbers to objects and frames. Enters object information into EmbARK database. Performs other duties as required. This is a one-year grant-funded position.
