The Ventura County Museum of History & Art seeks an Executive Director to lead a museum with over a half million dollar annual budget. The Museum, established in 1913, is one of oldest in California. Located in the City of Ventura, incorporated in 1866, a vital tourist center on the coast between Malibu and Santa Barbara, the community provides an excellent climate and place to live. The 15,700 square-foot facility is located on city park property and is fully paid for. Principal exhibits feature local history, a gallery for changing art and history exhibits, a collection of one-fourth life-size Historic FiguresŪ, and antique farm implements. Facilities include a historical research library, and a museum store. An art collection emphasizes the work of Ventura County artists. The paid staff numbers 8 full-time with 8 part-time employees. An effective, active docent program is carried out by 130 docents. The Board of Directors seeks a dynamic and knowledgeable museum professional with excellent leadership, interpersonal, fund raising and communications skills to lead and administer a dynamic institution. Minimum qualifications: a advanced degree in museum studies, art history or western history is desirable. Museum experience is also highly desirable. Salary and benefits competitive.
