In response to both Jen and E.J. I would suggest that many museums need staff with expertise in an area of their collections or work. While we have hired curators with Museum Studies degrees, that degree hasn't been the sole factor in their selection. We also looked at their academic training in areas of our collections, undergraduate degrees, and "work" experience as volunteers, interns, and in paid positions. We can't afford to hire someone to manage our collections who only knows "museum studies," we need someone who also knows something about part of the collection, too. Jen's questions, IMHO, are the right ones to ask. Chris Dill - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - C. L.
