I have a large poster, given to me during a visit three years ago to the Australian War Memorial. It says something to the effect that "Yes, Canberra DOES have a heart and soul." There are two images on the poster. The first is of the Australian parliament buildings, said to be the largest building in the southern hemisphere. The other is of the Australian War Memorial. I leave it to you to decide which one is the soul. It is a powerful demonstration of the role played by the AWM as a national institution.
