The Tech Museum of Innovation Full-Time Opening Public Programs Manager The mission of The Tech Museum of Innovation is to serve as an educational resource that engages people of all ages and backgrounds in exploring and experiencing technologies affecting their lives, and to inspire young people to become innovators in developing technologies of the future. Participate in The Tech Museum of Innovation's major expansion into a new facility scheduled for opening in 1998, in the heart of Silicon Valley. The Tech is seeking an experienced professional to serve as the Public Programs Manager. The Public Programs Manager reports to the Vice President for Education and Public Programs. This full-time, exempt position provides exposure to all aspects of the general operations of the museum exhibits, services, and public and education programs. Primary emphasis is to design, implement and assess innovative and relevant public programs for youth and the public to increase admissions and membership sales. Responsibilities: * Design, manage, and assess weekend, afterschool and special programs for youth and adults to promote interest in learning about science and technology through The Tech. * Collaborate with department staff to create, promote and implement special programs and services to increase and sustain high attendance and membership. * Recruit, orient, support and assess contracted staff for weekend, afterschool, summer and other special programs. * Collaborate with department staff and Online Services to maintain current information and engaging program related experiences on The Tech Online. * Coordinate program development, promotion, implementation and assessment for The Tech Challenge and major lecture series. * Prepare budgets, tactical plans and maintain program information related to attendance, participants, and assessment. * Design and implement a program plan based on cost recovery through fees and sponsorship. * Prepare information for program promotions in cooperation with the Marketing department. * Comply with Tech policies and procedures in performing all responsibilities. * Complete projects and achieve annual goals/objectives on time and within budget. * Share weekend responsibilities with department staff. * Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements: * College degree in science, technology and/or comparable field of study. * 2+ years of experience in successfully developing and managing programs for people of diverse ages, backgrounds and interests. * Proficiency in the use of technology for teaching and as a tool for learning. * Ability and experience to work well with the public in a museum and/or comparable informal learning environment. * Ability to effectively lead and/or participate in department and cross department project teams. * Commitment to create successful programs to meet or exceed goals for annual attendance, program participation and membership. * Collaborative, enthusiastic individual with excellent leadership and communications skills. Must be flexible and be willing to adapt to the museum's needs. Must be available to work on evenings, weekends and holidays. * Commitment to The Tech's educational mission, exhibits, programs and long-range plans.
