As a frequent visitor to Los Angeles (a.k.a. Paradise on Earth), I can tell you it has many fine institutions, with one absolute must-see: The Museum of Jurassic Technology. As your visitor is primarily interested in art, I would strongly recommend the African-American Museum in Exposition Park. If she likes architecture, there is the I.M. Pei Museum downtown, very near the Contemporary. And though I personally have never been, I hear wonderful things about Huntington Gardens and Library. The La Brea Tar Pits (are they open yet?) and the Autry are great fun as well. (My apologies if I have misspelled any names; I'm doing this from memory.)
