The U.S. House of Representatives just voted to keep level funding for
the National Endowment for the Arts in the next fiscal year by a vote of
253 in favor to 173 opposed -- a larger margin of victory than anybody
expected.  As a colleague said, "I didn't realize we were so beloved."

In fact, the main focus of the debate was about whether a Republican or
a Democrat would get to offer the amendment to restore funding.  How
times change!
