Hi folks,

I had my portfolio evaluated by them about 10 years ago right after I
finished grad school. Since you all have not been hearing my name bandied
about the international art scene it is safe to bet their evaluation did
not help place me in hot galleries. Kidding aside, they gave attention to
the quality of my presentation - slides, transparencies, resume, etc.,
not the quality of artwork. My evaluator then directed me towards the
galleries that exhibited work in the same genre as my own. I think they
then gave me a list of galleries, their phone numbers and contact
names. I was also encouraged to participate in non-profit and
alternative spaces/galleries and submit my work to group exhibitions.
None of this information was a revelation to me as I had been exhibiting
in these type of spaces in California all the while I was in grad
school. I had also developed a pretty good quality portfolio/presentation.
The information on galleries was nothing I could not have found by doing a
little research.

So, overall I would say, it is good for artists
just starting their exhibition careers, especially if they need help with
their slides, portfolio, presentation, etc. It is not the place to learn
whether or not your artwork is good. And they do not hand out little cards
while saying, "I know this guy at the Whitney. Here is his number. He is
going to love your work. Tell him I told you to call."

It is a consultation service to artists, where for a fee, they can review your portfolio and direct you specific NYC galleries that will review your style of work. They are not agents per say, but give out information (i.e. selected gallery director names/numbers).
