REVISIONS TO ICOM BASIC SYLLABUS REACH DISCUSSION DRAFT STAGE Over the past three years ICOM's International Committee for the Training of Personnel (ICTOP) has been working on an update of the ICOM Basic Syllabus for museum training programmes. Most of the work has been co-ordinated through office of Nancy Fuller at the Smithsonian, Washington. A draft of the new document "Curriculum Guidelines for Personnel Development in Museums (Draft: May 1998)" is now available for review by the international community. Accompanying this document is an extensive bibliography on the subject of museum training and career development. The main feature of the revisions is to move away from a topical syllabus format, to a competency based "curriculum" which reflects current methodological practices in the field of human resources development.
